Typography beyond Latin: The 13th GRANSHAN Type Design Competition is on!
The GRANSHAN Foundation announced the launch of the 13th GRANSHAN Type Design Competition, a respected and renowned event that celebrates and honors outstanding fonts beyond Latin as well as multiscript families. Typeface designers from all around the globe are invited to participate in this competition, fostering diversity, international communication, communities and identity. The Grand Prize reached the amount of 3,000 Euros and is solid proof of GRANSHAN’s goal to actively support type designers globally. Don’t miss out on this - the early phase is now open and running until 15 February 2024.
The competition comes back with a lot of new expansions, such as the addition of Georgian to its script groups, increasing the total number of diverse categories to ten. Renowned graphic designer Nino Jishkariani chairs the Georgian group and also Irene Vlachou (Script Group Greek), Eunyou Noh (Korean Script Group) and Rathna Ramanathan, join the competition as Script Chairs, offering new insights to its leadership. There is also a new Co-Chairperson alongside Veronika Burian, Toshi Omagari - Japanese-born type designer.
Moreover, the Script Group Thai becomes the Script Group South East Asian and includes from now on Burmese, Khmer, Lao and Thai. Also, the "Edik Ghabuzyan Lifetime Achievement Award for Armenian Type Design," presented by the Armenian Script Group will pay tribute to Edik Ghabuzyan's retirement and participants can celebrate Armenian type design in this special category with submission costs covered by GRANSHAN.
For this thrilling opportunity, type designers from all over the world are now invited to submit their original scripts in six categories, with the possibility of 180 prizes, celebrating the art and cultural value of typeface. All those involved in the design, manufacturing, or marketing of typefaces are welcome to submit text and display typefaces, pure non-Latin typefaces or combination of non-Latin and Latin as well as multiscript typefaces with at least two non-Latin complements.
