TwoPoints.Net X Rafael Nadal: celebrating THAT epic Rafa win in 129 type-only logo variations
TwoPoints.Net aka the design studio that was founded in 2007 with the aim to do exceptional design work and always delivers was commissioned by Nike to design a logo to celebrate Rafael Nadal's epic 21st Grand Slam win.
Lupi Asensio & Martin Lorenz managed to create more than 120 logo variations in less that 72 hours.
“Unfortunately none of them were used, which does not make us love them less” says Lorenz and we couldn't agree more.
This is not the first time TPN collaborated with Nike.
“We had the pleasure to design some type for NIKE. Along with three different fonts, we designed proposals for the retail design and campaign for the new NIKE shop at the Chelsea Football Club Stadium” TwoPoints.Net told Typeroom back in 2020.
To congratulate Rafael Nadal after the Spaniard won a record-breaking 21st Grand Slam title on Sunday, Nike has rolled out a film on its social media channels.
The film features a scoreboard taking note of his Grand Slam titles along with commentary from some of his iconic games. There's also a bit about experts doubting him after Nadal didn't win a single Grand Slam in 2015 and 2016.
Nadal was tied at 20 Grand Slam wins, each along with Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. Now with Nadal leading the pack with 21 wins, Nike states it's 'Advantage, Nadal'.
On another note, TPN's Flexible Visual Systems is a must-own publication for the graphic design community.
Named as a “design manual for contemporary visual identities” the book provides the reader with “a variety of approaches on how to design flexible systems, adjustable to any aesthetic or project in need of an identifiable visual language.”
Flexible Visual Systems, published by Slanted, sums up 10 years of research of Dr. Martin Lorenz at the University of Barcelona, 20 years of developing systems at TwoPoints.Net and 18 years of teaching systems at over 10 design universities throughout Europe on 320 pages.
