TP Quarantine: Typical resist the pandemic with a free typeface for all
Kostas Vlachakis & Joshua Olsthoorn aka Typical Organization for standard and orders want their latest project to go viral in times of the pandemic. Well, it should.
The Athens based design duo whose work is part of Typeroom’s DNA as the creatives of our -softly launched earlier this year- redesign, hope everything is all right and safe, as long as some design distancing is taking place with the release of their latest font.
“This typeface TP Quarantine is designed within the quarantine that the coronavirus pandemic imposed to us and most of the world in the year twenty-twenty. It is a typical way to think about the new syntax human social life is experiencing” notes Typical of their available for free font, a design gift to all typophiles in quarantine mode.
“The typeface does articulate its self in the category known as ‘condensed’ or also ‘compressed’ typefaces emphasizing the narrowing perspective this pandemic is causing. We could also consider this condensing effect as a reference towards the engineering of Gothic architecture at Late Middle Ages expressing the human desire to reach the sky for answers in desperate times.”
“TP quarantine is also including the act ‘social distancing’ by extending the ‘space’ between words canceling or alternating the usual readability of rendered texts. Like the changed way to relate to our social space this typeface is consciously isolating words to perhaps inspire awareness of the how such a ‘small’ deranging element in typesetting is deranging our common sense” adds Typical.
Inspired by iconic auteur and philosopher of visual communication Jean-Luc Godard whose interview on Instagram Live went viral for all the right reasons, Typical created a typographic short film with TP Quarantine in use.
“The film with and on 'TP Quarantine' casted within the quarantine that the coronavirus pandemic imposed to us and most of the world in the year twenty-twenty. The word film is emphasising in an operatic way on the ambiguous media-pandemic the virus procured humanity. Also we could not not think of a recent instagram Live with Godard wherein he depicted the virus is a form of communication” reads the introduction to this design in motion short.
