TDCDAY 2020: Madoka Nishi awards Marlet AntiManifesto at Tokyo TDC
And the award goes to the return of the big format print that speaks volumes with a female inspired type system, Parachute’s PF Marlet.
Marlet AntiManifesto has been awarded at this year’s Tokyo Type Directors Club Awards and although the presentation could not happen live due to the coronapocalypse, Tokyo TDC organized a live event on YouTube this past Saturday.
“In April, the Japanese cheery blossoms are very beautiful in Tokyo; we invite the prize winners of the Tokyo TDC Annual Awards here for the award ceremony. Unfortunately, we cannot meet them all this year. TDCDAY is where prize winners talk about their prize winning artworks, but today, there is almost nobody the venue” notes Tokyo TDC of its online creative fest featuring all the winners of this year’s league and their awarded project.
“We have gathered materials from designers all over the world and would like to share them with you through the internet. This is to all the a designers, students, and authorized people who are staying home.”
The award to Marlet AntiManifesto, this bold, XXL typographic compendium on the new feminine, was presented by IDEA’s magazine Madoka Nishi.
Edited by Loukas Karnis, art directed by Manos Daskalakis and produced by Athens-based Parachute in the event of its latest humanist type system release, this limited publication, accompanied by two posters and a specimen of patterns, bridges feminist and design.
Featuring portraits by renowned fashion photographer Bill Georgoussis and contributing female editors -a big shout out to the girls of the team aka journalists Efi Alevizou, Xenia Ioannou and Dimitra Vgenopoulou, author Miranda Vatikioti, publisher Katia Koutsafti & opera singer and poet Aphrodite Patoulidou- who provided their own stories on the origins and qualities of an edgy and elegant font by the name Marlet in words, this limited edition is meant to be inspiring -both visually and spiritually.
“This is unique” notes Nishi on the Tokyo TDC awarded multi-faceted project.
“I found interest in the fact that the expression of the paper-based media is getting renewed attention and autonomous creative works are being done at a type foundry in Greece, a country which experienced economic crisis” she adds.
PF Marlet aka Parachute’s latest humanist type system release is designed by Parachute’s founder and type designer Panos Vassiliou and has been awarded with the coveted TDC Certificate of Typographic Excellence earlier this year.
Special thanks to ION for providing the music of the presentation with an ever-expanding soundscape for PF Marlet.
So, from all the good people over at Parachute, this is to all the warriors out there for a better, fair world. This is to all.
