Quim Marin cleans up our visually polluted mess one work at a time
“There’s a load of impressive poster and other print design on there, with particularly effective use of some trendy tropes which can often feel stale in less talented hands” says It’s nice that on the portfolio of an amazing man. Quim Marin’s visuals are here to impress and help us focus on the beauty of clean typography. Using shapes and colors to enhance the message of the letterforms, the Barcelona-based designer and art director is a man of our times and he is not very happy about what we are obliged to see all around us. “In such a visually polluted environment I try to come up with fresh and memorable designs with a clear aim at essential beauty and equilibrium that, at the same time, will ensure communicative effectiveness” is his only statement on his personal site which proves that he is here for a reason. As he examines the graphic design trends of today, Marin refines them with strong geometric elements and his ever clean typographic approach. “His masterful use of color further complements his clean designs, elevating his posters into the realm of great design” says The Face of his hyper visual line of work. “Looking back on my work one can realize that it is strongly linked to the show business. Particularly to music. I find it hard to count the projects I have worked in throughout the last 15 years. Naming, art direction, graphic design, creation of advertising campaigns – I believe I have pulled all the strings” he comments. “I seek to whet the eye, I want the visual impact to remain in people’s memory, I aspire to seduce minds through contrast”. Our picks speak of this Spanish master of graphic design much better than any words.
