This is your chance to explore Eric Gill’s typographic legacy
The Eric Gill Series exhibition kicked off on November 4 at the Truman Brewery in Brick Lane, London. Designers, students and type fans alike are invited to explore rarely seen type artifacts, interactive installations and type-inspired microbrews — all celebrating the past and future of Eric Gill’s most-beloved typefaces: Gill Sans and Joanna. Monotype has partnered with Eye, Penguin Books, Ditchling Museum, FIELD, LeBook, The Five Points Brewing Company, The Typography Workshop and Letterform Archive to present a seven-day exhibition on Eric Gill’s type designs. Rarely seen materials from the Monotype Archive and other private collections will be presented together for the first time so be prepared to explore a universe made of Gill Sans typeface, hand-drawings documenting his craft, test prints for display fonts that were never digitized, and copper plates revealing the production process of early letterpress typefaces.
