The typographic celebration of flemish design is strong as ever
Published by Design Flanders in cooperation with Flanders Fashion Institute, Kwintessens is an inspiring publication. The magazine’s sole purpose is to push the limits of the design and fashion field whilst reporting on current affairs both in Flanders and beyond. Every issue of this typographic fest, which has been issued every three months since 1992, is dedicated to a different theme and designed by a different graphic artist. Laura Bergans is responsible for their latest publication and this designer knows her game. Bold palette and colourful contrasts are stimulating the overall visual language of this product where the letterforms lead from the front. “Titles within the magazine are theatrical typographic displays, with letters streamlining down pages like alphabetical confetti” comments Magculture’s Madeleine Morley. “Each feature of the publication has its own matching font, used not only for the spread’s title and sub-titles, but also for the page number and section information. This format allows for typographic experimentation and visual variety, whilst still retaining a strong sense of coherence throughout” she added on her review. “I design books, graphic identities, posters, flyers and other printed matter” writes Bergans. “My portfolio consist of work for some major cultural houses but I also have some self initiated projects. The combination of this keeps me inspired” she added. Kwintessens proves she can inspire all of us as well. Grab your own copy here
