Thank God It's Friday with some text art by Derrick Hickman

A contemporary artist based in the Midwest, Hickman’s works revolve around ideas of memory and the conflict that arises when we try to attach static meaning to them. Text, iconic playthings, advertising jargon and personal narratives are reoccurring themes in the artist’s paintings and sculptures. In his latest series Hickman who considers himself a text artist “wants to introduce his modern text abstraction which are a bit of a play on the portrait commission”.

“In this series, clients submit written personal narratives that I redesign into large format, abstracted text works which incorporate modulated color fields in the negative space”.
