Snapchat’s menu has a new font and people are mad about it
This March, everyone’s favorite social platform, Snapchat rolled out an update that changed the app’s font within its iOS menus. “It’s a little lighter, and a bit more geometric than the old font” commented graphic designer Tynan Humphrey to the Daily Dot. For him “the old font appeared to be Helvetica while the new font looks like Avenir”.
Yet Snapchat’s viral crowd was not pleased with the change that left lots of users bewildered. For many this new, smaller, font resembles a typeface that is used on Android devices and that is a bad thing for the iPhone Gen even though Avenir isn’t even a supported font on Android. Even if Avenir has been the font of choice for Apple Maps and Siri.
The platform declined to comment on the details of the font change but if you are one of those who despise the new font whilst wondering if there’s a way to get rid of it, well, you have to jailbreak your device and then modify your font. FYI no such jailbreaks are currently supporting the latest version of iOS so Snapchat to get used to the new font.
