Gloria Dynasty: Policestudio’s new font is totally guilt-free
They met 10 years ago at at the National College of Arts and Design (ENSAAMA) Olivier de Serres in Paris. Ever since, Pierre Ferrandez and Eliote Shahmiri evolved and developed their skills in Graphic design, Typography Illustration and global Art Direction. After their work as Art Directors in highly regarded studios such as H5 and Encore in Paris, as well as Exposure and Pure DNA in London the duo decided to join forces by creating their independent design office, Policestudio. Ferrandez and Shahmiri were joined by the Estienne graduated typeface designer Arthur Alazard back in 2015 and today they are more than happy to share with us one of their first projects.
“We believe in both the importance of a structured method, and in the respect of process in creation. In this framework, drawing has a foundation key role. Typography is one of our favorite mediums to deliver unique and original statements for each of our clients” they say.
“We’re starting to show a little our work, so I wanted to share with you our last font & type specimen: Gloria. At first we drew it as a Didone without serifs. And as you can see, the bold style wears the classic high contrast between the thin and thick strokes. But the light one is shaped with the thin proportion only. The regular is just in between. All 3 styles (+ the italics) are unified with the same punctuation set, which is designed in reference to the drops used in the néo-classic Didot family. We called this little family: Gloria Dynasty. We hope you will like it!” they add.
