Other Forms are breaking new ground in publishing with type
Mobile research and design collective working in multiple intersections of architecture, graphic design, and publishing, Other Forms -the studio of Jack Henrie Fisher, Jonathan Krohn, and Alan Smart - produces exhibitions, publications, writing, and typography, and anticipates the possibility of architecture.
Other Forms considers “how design reflects and critiques, in semi-autonomous marginal spaces, the material and social conditions of its practice” and in each of their project the designers “seek to open or reveal surplus spaces for the production of speech and writing”. As a studio, Other Forms “works contingently and dialectically, making it up as they go along, each step retroactively illuminating and reformulating the ones before, in the construction of an incomplete sentence about work, language, and politics”.
Counter-Signals, this periodically produced journal addressing, in variable iterations, convergent aspects of design, media, and politics is just one proof of their mission. The second issue of CS “Hieroglyphs of the anti-commodity” documents and theorizes forms of militant aesthetics in the histories of art, labor, and typography, among other things.
