Oil paintings are all the hype
First used for the Buddhist paintings by Indian and Chinese painters in western Afghanistan sometime between the fifth and tenth centuries, oil painting did not gain popularity until the 15th century. Eventually, having migrated westward during the Middle Ages, oil paint eventually became the principal medium used for creating artworks -just think of all those early Netherlandish paintings in Northern Europe and you are ok to go. By the height of the Renaissance oil painting techniques had almost completely replaced tempera paints in the majority of Europe and today, Yuta Kawaguchi is determined to give it’s hype back. The japanese art director and graphic designer from Tokyo decided to introduce us his new version of this art form and we just can’t stop reading his typographic gallery of bright colored wonders of the past, the future and beyond.
