Non-Format are breaking the rules of book design. Again!
“With our firm belief in the importance of bespoke design solutions, we’ve been working with our clients to communicate their messages, define their identities and build their brands since the turn of the millennium.” Kjell Ekhorn and Jon Forss, better known as Non-Format continue to surprise and create an ever expressive and custom typography for their latest project. Their complete book design for Norwegian writer, actor and comedian Odd-Magnus Williamson’s darkly humorous love story Ord For Dagen Mordknull. Each page of the publication is meticulously crafted, sometimes tightly packed with several lines of text, sometimes with just a few words whilst the choice of larger words is designed as a decoy to distract from the darker side of the author’s often unsettling prose. Staying focused at their firm conviction that each and every one of their design solutions must balance the desire to connect with individuals on an emotional level with the need for direct, strategic and effective communication, Non Format customized, once again, a classic in an ingenious way. Americana, the font created by the renowned type designer Richard Isbell in 1965 in honor of the then upcoming U.S. Bicentennial with its extremely large x-height and wide letter proportions, is modified to give this edition a distinct typographic identity.
