Award winning Neo Asian typography
By promoting design education through art book competitions and an array of award-winning posters and books since 1998, 601bisang has become a key player in Korea’s contemporary design scene and the awards that is has garnered will prove us right. After 5 best of the best awards, 17 winner awards and the title of Red Dot Agency Of The Year 2012, Kum-Jun Park establishment is making headlines once more. “What is fascinating about this series is how dramatic it looks in person. Also it has a beautiful mixture of Asian and Western tradition. The Digilog601 type is created out of almost electronic, circuit-like elements. When they are overlapped, flipped and mirrored they create a feeling of Korean or Asian typography. The designers managed to do that in so many ways that there is almost no repetition on posters. In the meantime, each poster from very far looks like traditional Korean imagery” commented Mirko Ilic who recently judged the prestigious 2014 Golden Bee Global Biennale in Moscow. The Grand Prix awarded posters are a reminder of what 601bisang believes in: It would be easy to follow everyone else/ Continuing on with the usual is easy also/ Nothing will happen if you just do what you can or whatever is easy/ Then who will do “something new”? Who will do “what has never been done?” Who will manifest the ultimate vision of design?” We are convinced that we can outdo ourselves". Obviously for this Korean studio “doing something differently is not the hardest thing to do in this world”.
