Printing is everything in this week's May Day 2019 ANTE art festival
A life promised for tomorrow is a life robbed of today is the motto of ANTE, the festival which brings a May Day creative fest to Shipley this weekend. The letterpress printed poster for this "anarchic weekend of exhibitions, workshops, food and live music" is a beauty, designed by The Print Project, a letterpress printing resource tucked away in the small northern town of West Yorkshire.
Ever since 2010, The Print Project "has been raising hell and the dead with its distinctive high quality letterpress printing from its base in the small northern town of Shipley. From posters that will poke you in the eye to finely crafted pieces of print that will knock your teeth out, the Yorkshire based outfit exclusively uses 500 year old printing technology killed off by commercial interests and given the kiss of life by our resident print maniacs" notes the website of TPP.
In love with wood and metal type, for the folks at The Print Project "letterpress printing is not an aesthetic, it’s a rigorous and methodical process which produces tactile vibrant printing that will make you want to kiss a goat, stroke a pig or say hello to Jesus."

So, as May marches on feast your eyes with all the printed creativity unleashed during ANTE which takes place on 4-5th May at The Kirkgate Centre in Shipley and "feast your eyes" with printing (letterpress, solar, stencil), zine and all of Golden Cabinet's psychedelic posters on display.
"Wild colours, overlapping shapes, repetition of shape & form and a strong nod toward modernism. Combining metal type with a wild array of abstract imagery created through the use of Duke Studio’s laser cutter with an often garish fluorescent colour palette has meant the posters have gone on to become something of a success much in the same way the night is" notes The Print Project of this ongoing poster experiment. May Day 2019 will look and feel amazing in Shipley, don't you agree?
