Anthony Burrill and the art of making things done
If you’re a communicator, you communicate through whatever means” says Anthony Burrill in Creative Review as he shares his insights in living with creativity. Burrill’s latest book, published by Penguin, “Make It Now!” is both a memoir and a guide for how to make it as a designer while also living your life with decency and humor.
“If you’re stuck for an idea, have a big decision to handle or need a new perspective on a problem, here are some approaches for thinking, communicating and creativity. An upbeat guide that anyone can use to help with the big and small challenges we face every day” says the renowned designer and artist Burrill who continues to celebrate his life as one of the most important designers of our era with wit and wisdom.
Full of inspiration and ideas, his best-loved prints as well as new work, this publication will help us into thinking bigger and better whilst recharging your creativity.
The book also marks 20 years in the design world for Burrill and is a welcome opportunity to reflect on his work so far. This life-affirming guide to new thinking, creative problem-solving and getting things done from graphic artist Anthony Burrill speaks the truth.
“Creativity isn’t a constant dependable resource, it needs to be cared for and nurtured. There’s nothing worse than feeling uncreative, it can become difficult to deal with and very hard to unblock. Giving yourself breathing space and being careful not to overwork is a good way of keeping your creativity healthy. Sometimes the most effective way of working is not to do any work. When I’m feeling ‘design fatigue’ I find it hard to get excited about things that I’d normally be interested in. I take that as a sign that I need to have a break for a few days and give myself a complete rest from work. After a couple of days I find myself thinking about getting back and slowly the creative urge starts to grow again” he writes.
